How to Teach the Super Seven High Frequency Verbs in Spanish Class?
Ready to support students' communicative abilities with the super seven verbs? Here are a few easy and simple ways that you can begin to teach the super siete verbs in your class!
Visual Supports: Decorating your classroom with posters is a great way to add some light to your room. Print and hang up such posters to introduce and reinforce the Super 7 verbs! Visuals can help students better understand and remember the meaning and usage of each verb. They are a great reference to refer to throughout the lesson too!
Ask Personalized Questions: Building community is my top priority in my Spanish classroom. With the super 7 verbs, you can learn SO much information about students just using these verbs alone!
Repeat, Repeat, Repeat: Meaningful repetition is a Spanish teachers’ best friend! Repeat the super 7 verbs in context frequently. Encourage repeated exposure and practice with the Super 7 verbs to help reinforce learning.
Total Physical Response (TPR): When introducing the super 7 verbs, match them with a movement that you do every time you use that word. Students should perform this movement too! Yes, even your highschoolers can do this! When you match a movement to a word, the likeliness of a student acquiring that word increases!
Provide Comprehensible Input (CI): Teaching in the target language for 90%+ of your classroom period is just one goal of world language teachers. How is this possible? Through providing Comprehensible Input. How is providing CI possible? By using the super 7 verbs! Simplify the input that you provide to students by using the super siete verbs. When you repeat the sentences you use, what are students more likely to do? Communicate and acquire language!
Stories!: Stories are a powerful tool. Stories are what stick in our heads over a lifetime. Why would we neglect the use of stories in our classrooms? Storytelling/Storyasking is another tool for the world language classroom. TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) promotes language acquisition. It involves a collaborative process between the teacher and students to craft narratives in the target language.
Songs: Have you ever had a song stuck in your head? Now imagine if we can get a super catchy song, filled with lots of repetitions of the super 7 verbs, stuck into our students’ heads?!
Movietalk/Clipchat: Not sure if you’re ready to begin creating a story with your class? No worries! Thankfully, there are thousands of stories out there, waiting to be retold. I suggest finding a 1-3 minute short animated film (with no dialogue/narration) on YouTube that you can narrate for YOUR students!
